Obasanjo Congratulates Buhari Charging Him To Fight Corruption

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated the Presidential candidate of the All progressives congress Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd,,) on his victory in the presidential poll, charging him to fight corruption and carry out reforms in different sectors. Obasanjo, who noted that so much harm had already been done to many national institutions, including the military, however, advised him to be magnanimous in victory. He said, “With so much harm already done to many national institutions including the military, which proudly nurtured you and me, you will have a lot to do on institution reform – education, healthcare, economy, security, infrastructure, power, youth employment, agri-business, oil and gas, external affairs, cohesiveness of our nation and ridding our land of corruption. “Your varied and wide experience will undoubtedly stand you in good stead.” The former president said the country “is blessed with men and women ...

Presidential election results so far! PDP in early lead...

The presidential election results for 18 states plus the FCT has so far been announced. The APC has 10 states, while PDP has 8 states plus the FCT, Abuja. It's a very tight race. So far APC is leading with 8,520,436 votes while PDP has 6,488,210 votes. The election result announcement has ended for today. The commission has reconvened till 10am tomorrow. INEC has announced results for 8 states and the FCT, Abuja - (total 9) and so far PDP is leading with 2,332,734 votes while APC has 2,302,978 votes, though APC won five states and PDP four states. The commission has reconvened till 8pm tonight to allow sufficient time for other states to bring in their results. We are still expecting results for 27 states. We will continue by 8pm. Wife stabs husband to death over APC,PDP presidential candidates in Lagos

A 26 year old pregnant wife simply identified as Onyiyechi has been arrested by the Lagos state police command for stabbing her husband to death following an argument over the presidential candidates in Saturday's general election at their home in Ejigbo on Sunday March 29th. According to a report by Vanguard, the husband was  supporting PDP while Onyiyechi supported the APC. An arguement over who would win the presidential election degenerated into a fight with the wife stabbing her husband inside their one room apartment at the 81 military zone junction in Ejigbo A neighbor in their compound narrated what happened, He said; "We were all outside waiting to vote when Onyiyechi rushed out, shouting for help. Out of curiosity, we all ran inside, only to discover blood all over the ground, on entering their apartment. On closer observation, we noticed that the blood was from her husband chest region. Katsina State Police Commissioner Dies

The Nigeria Police has announced the death of Alhaji Muhammad Hurdi (pictured middle above), the Katsina State commissioner of police. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Aminu Sadiq announced the demise of Hurdi in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Katsina. Sadiq said that Hurdi died on March 27, after a protracted illness. The late commissioner joined the service in 1988 as ASP cadet officer and rose through the ranks to the rank of a commissioner. The PPRO said that Hurdi would be remembered as a patriotic and dedicated officer who gave his best in the service of his fatherland. The Deputy Commissioner of police, Mr Bala Zama Senche, prayed to God to grant the deceased eternal rest and gave the family fortitude to bear the lost. (NAN).

Sad! Boat carrying Olu of Epe's son & APC Epe LGA candidate capsizes as they returned from election monitoring

A boat carrying Aremo Azeez Adewale, the first son of Olu of Epe, Oba Sefiu Olatunji Adewale and director in the Ministry of  Chieftaincy affairs and Muiz Bello, a local government chairman, APC Epe candidate, capsized this afternoon as the men and others returned from a riverine area in Epe where they had gone for election monitoring. Mourners have thronged the Olu's palace in to sympathize with him. The prince has since been buried according to Muslim rites at his house in Isasi, Epe. May their souls rest in peace, amen.

APC vice presidential candidate, Professor Yemi Osibanjo and wife, Dolapo have arrived their polling centre at Eti-osa, Lagos. Dolapo drove the couple to the venue. Reports from their centre has it that INEC staff arrived late, at about 10am while the APC VP arrived 9am. Voters had to register their names and were assigned numbers while they waited for the INEC officials. More pics after the cut.

Bomb Explosion Rocks Polling Booth in Enugu

A car bomb explosion at the WTC Primary School polling booth in Enugu North LGA at about 7:38 Saturday has just been reported. No casualty recorded. Bomb disposal experts dismantled the second bomb which was timed to explode during the voting and detonated it at 8:45. As shocking as it might be, there was a third device which detonated at 9:05. Although journalists are unable to gain entrance to the place, a source said the bomb was laden in a Honda Baby Jeep.

Nigerians are about to go to the polls to elect a president, with incumbent Goodluck Jonathan facing a strong challenge from Muhammadu Buhari. It is expected to be the most closely fought election since independence, set against a background of violence from militant Islamist group Boko Haram. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has dominated Nigerian politics since 1999, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) is viewed as a serious challenge. The polls open at 07:00 GMT. The two main presidential candidates have signed an agreement to prevent violence. during the election and its aftermath. Some 800 people were killed after the 2011 contest between the two rivals. The polls were due to be held on 14 February, but were postponed to give the electoral commission more time to prepare for the polls and for regional forces to regain territory from Boko Haram in the north-east. NSCDC deploys 3,000 men in Bauchi State - Commandant

Bauchi - The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed 3,000 officers and men to ensure security in today's Presidential and National Assembly elections in Bauchi State. The Commandant of the corps in the state, Don Ikemefuna, revealed that the command had received all the necessary reinforcement from the national headquarters to ensure a successful poll. "In Bauchi State command, we have 2,500 men, but we have been able to get some reinforcement from the national headquarters. "So, we are talking about 3,000 officers and men. They have already been deployed. "As I speak, everybody is going to his respective polling unit, including me; I am going to be on duty today. "We have gotten a lot of reinforcement from our national headquarters, seven brand new Hilux vehicles; they have provided everything necessary for tomorrow's election to be very successful."
